Accessibility & Readability

Your content is there.

Half your visitors can't read it.

02 / 08

The Problem

Why this dimension costs you business

Accessibility isn't just about screen readers - it's about readability. Low contrast text, small fonts, and wall-of-text layouts lose 20% of your visitors before they ever reach your offer.

Example Audit Finding

Dimension 06

Example finding

Text contrast ratios fall below WCAG AA standards on several sections of this page, making content difficult to read for users with low vision or in high-brightness environments.

04 / 08

Common Failures

What goes wrong on most websites

Contrast ratio failures

Light grey text on white backgrounds, white text on light images - these aesthetic choices fail WCAG 2.1 AA standards and make your content unreadable for 1 in 12 people with colour vision deficiency.

Wall-of-text body copy

Paragraphs longer than 5 lines, no subheadings, and no visual breaks make content hard to scan - especially on mobile. Readers bounce before they absorb your message.

Missing alt text on images

Alt text does double duty: it helps screen reader users understand your visual content, and it gives search engines another signal about your page topic. Blank alt attributes waste both opportunities.

05 / 08

What Good Looks Like

Strong Accessibility & Readability - the checklist

WCAG AA contrast ratios

All body text meets a 4.5:1 minimum contrast ratio; large text meets 3:1.

Font size minimum 16px

Base body text is never smaller than 16px on any viewport.

Descriptive alt text on all images

Every meaningful image has a specific, descriptive alt attribute - not just the filename.

Keyboard navigation works

All interactive elements are reachable and usable via keyboard alone.

Readable line length

Body text lines are 55–75 characters wide, with adequate line-height (1.5+).
